 Frequently Asked Questions

Maybe you have questions about visiting Big Spring Methodist Church for the first time.  Whether you have never been to church before, or you have just never been to this church, you might be wondering about our Sunday services.  Since many people have these same questions and concerns, we have placed some of them here to help your first visit be more comfortable.  If you still have questions please call our office at 432-267-6394 or use our contact form on this web site.  Don’t feel that your question is not important.  Maybe it is one we have not thought of, but needs to be placed on this page.

What form of worship should I expect?

Worship at First United Methodist Church in Big Spring, Texas is a combination of traditional and blended styles depending on the service you attend.  A traditional service is held at 8:30 AM in the sanctuary.  A blended service is held at 10:50 AM in the sanctuary.  Bulletins are available for each service at the entrance.  They contain the order of service and a calendar for Sunday and weekly activities as well as other information.

What should I wear when I visit your church?

What you are wearing is not so important as that you come.  However if you will feel more comfortable knowing how other members will be dressed, we usually have a great variety of dress from jeans to suits. Don’t wait until you can buy “something special”.  Just come and worship with us.  Take a look at the pictures on our website that show the congregation.  That should give you an idea of what to expect.

Must I give an offering?

As a Visitor, feel free to give an offering if you choose.  However, the choice to give an offering and the amount is not a requirement but a response to God’s blessings.  Our offering is used in several ways.  They are used for local and international missions along with the operation of First United Methodist Church. If you have a special cause that you would like your offering to go to, please note that on your check or put a note in the envelope provided for offerings in the back of the pew.

What will my children do during church?

A children’s sermon is given each Sunday as a way to involve young children in the worship service.  This is a short topic or object lesson geared to the understanding and interests of young children with the same topic as the sermon.  We hope your child will join the others at the front of the church.  After the children's sermon, children from 4 years old through 2^nd grade can go to children's church located in the education building on the second floor.  (Please see the building map by clicking here or Ushers will direct you where to go to pick them up at the end of the worship service.)

We also provide a nursery for children from infant to 3 years old.  It is also on the second floor of the educational building.

What if I don’t know what to do?

The procedure, readings, song numbers and other information can be found in the bulletin.  If you are ever unsure what to do and no one seems to notice, just ask for help.  Our members will be more than glad to help in any way.
